I thought it was pretty cool when Karolina approached me to do a guest post on Africa after reading my post last night about my friend’s daughter Yeleen and their charitable efforts to support women’s education overseas.

From relaxing beaches to energetic African music, mountain hikes, winery tours, and more, an African cruise has something to offer everyone. With so much to do and see, picking your activities can be difficult. But, if your cruise stops at a port anywhere near these next destinations, it will be well worth your while to make them part of your trip.

Here are the top six destinations to see in Africa:

1. Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s tallest mountain, Kilimanjaro stands 19,340 feet above sea level and takes a minimum of five days to get to the peak. Unlike Everest, though, Kilimanjaro is a walkable mountain. Making it to the summit does require planning and a certain level of physical fitness, but it doesn’t require much technical climbing knowledge, making it a popular trek for tourists.

2. The Victoria Falls – Located between Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Victoria Falls is thought to be the largest waterfall in the world. With a width of 5,604 feet and height of 354 feet, it has the largest falling sheet of water in the world, making it an impressive attraction for any visitor to see.

3. Giza Necropolis – Found on the outskirts of Egypt’s capital city, Cairo, Giza Necropolis is an ancient archaeological site that includes the last remaining Ancient Wonder of the World: the Great Pyramid. Also known as the Pyramid of Cheops or Khufu, the Great Pyramid is flanked by two smaller but also impressive pyramids, the Pyramid of Khafre (Chephren) and the Pyramid of Menkaure (Mykerinos). Giza Necropolis is also home to the Great Sphinx and many other fascinating ruins.

4. Masai Mara National Reserve – If your idea of an African vacation includes exotic animals like lions, leopards, rhinos, and elephants, then Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve is the place to be. Go on a safari or take a hot air balloon ride for a bird’s eye view, and if you’re there anytime from July to October, you can see zebra, wildebeest, and gazelle take part in their yearly journey, which is so vast it’s earned the nickname the Great Migration.

5. The Seychelles – This island nation lies nearly a thousand miles off the east coast of Africa, but it’s home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and boasts year-round temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s. With spectacular wildlife including some of the largest colonies of seabirds in the world and many plant species found nowhere else, it offers nature-loving visitors a rare opportunity to see unique wildlife.

6. Cape Town – The second largest city in South Africa, Cape Town has a long and fascinating history. Its intriguing architecture is complemented by a breathtaking natural landscape, while its multicultural population reflects the huge diversity of flora and fauna surrounding the city.

Africa has much to offer visitors, but these six are surely some of the most impressive places to go. Regardless of where you end up on your Africa cruise, though, you’re sure to have the time of your life.
